Turn the lights down and get cozy with your memories, DJ Snake‘s “Broken Summer” is a bass-heavy slow-jam that’ll either get you in the mood or leave you stuck in the feels.
It’s a bit of a tempo change for the party-forward artist. Max Frost sings through heavy auto-tune over a walking, funky bassline that’ll give you flashbacks of Daft Punk’s cool delivery. It was actually recorded in summer, though it’s got definite autumn style.
“I decided to drop ‘Broken Summer’ for you guys. No strategy. No plan. Just good vibes for the world,” he says in an emailed statement. “That’s what great music is after all, right? Much more coming soon, but for now, please enjoy ‘Broken Summer.’ It’s a vibe.”
“Broken Summer” follows the producer’s American Music Award nomination for favorite artist in electronic dance music, as well as his Lauv-featuring single “A Different Way,” which he’s filming a video for this week in Los Angeles. It will be directed by Colin Tilley, the same director who filmed his historic performance atop the Arc De Triomphe as a livestream to more than three million fans via Facebook. DJ Snake and Tilley are slated to release extended footage of the event in November.
