Even if you don’t know District 78 by name, you’ve likely heard their high-profile handiwork.
Comprised of Chris Lightbody, Spencer Yaras, Jay Kim and Bob Steinmiller, the team is best known as the producers and mixers behind popular television series like Dancing With the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. However, the group is also an independent musical act in its own right, with four studio albums to its name and a fifth on the way this fall.
The music video for the group’s first single, “Booty Shakin’ Music,” transforms YouTube’s L.A. headquarters into a lighthearted twerkfest, complete with oversized emojis and comical dance sequences.

“We love working on Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance because we’re really inspired by visuals,” they say. “It’s amazing to make a song and see it brought to life by the best dancers in the business. We’re kinda like the dance industry’s secret weapon.”
While District 78 says their music usually tends to be darker and more dramatic, having fun was their only aim on this release.
“We made the track, and at the drop we thought it needed to say something like ‘booty shakin’ music,'” they say. “We thought it might be too dumb to say that exact phrase, but it turns out it’s just dumb enough.”
