Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., which hosts concerts by Disney Channel stars like Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and The Cheetah Girls during the Disney Channel Games, is being rebranded in the name of corporate sibling ESPN.
The 220-acre facility, located inside the Walt Disney World Resort, will include more content on ESPN programming and personalities, with the sports complex itself undergoing a yet-to-be-determined name change.
Two million people annually attend events at the complex, which includes a 9,500-seat stadium used by the Atlanta Braves for spring training and the 5,000-capacity Milk House, which can be used for basketball and volleyball, among other indoor sports.
Started in 2006, the Disney Channel Games is an Olympics-style sporting event where stars of the channel face off against each other in various games and obstacle courses which are then aired Saturday nights during the summer. Each year the event hosts a concert with the network’s performers; the 2008 edition was filmed earlier this month.
