Dirty Vegas was the big winner at the second annual DanceStar USA Awards, held last night (March 19) in Miami’s South Beach. The Capitol act took home three nods for its hit “Days Go By”: record of the year, best video, and best use of music in a commercial. Oakenfold, the recording moniker of DJ Paul Oakenfold, won the award for best album for “Bunkka” (Maverick). Moby was named best act, DJ Sammy won best international act, Sandra Collins took home best U.S. DJ, and DJ Tiesto snared best international DJ honors.
Other winners included actor Wesley Snipes (best celebrity DJ), DJ Colette (best breakthrough DJ), Justin Timberlake (best chart act), Ultra Records (best label), Metro Area (best new-artist album for its self-titled Environ disc), and Fischerspooner (best remix for its reworking of Kylie Minogue’s “Come Into My World”).
P. Diddy debuted his new song “Let’s Get Ill” with assistance from vocalist Kelis, while Oakenfold closed the night with his single “Ready, Steady, Go.” As previously reported, the Diddy track will be featured on his upcoming dance-inflected studio album, due later this year via Bad Boy.
