You’re not the only one who posted about the 10 albums that most influences your formative years. That Facebook status meme going around has reached some of the inspirers themselves, notably Diplo who took to the social media site to share not just 10 but 12 of the albums that made an impact on him during his high school years.
The list spans genres, eras, and styles, as one might expect from the guy who helped develop M.I.A.‘s sound, founded Major Lazer, and at one point may have been the best open-format DJ on the planet. He lists Weezer‘s Blue Album, The Pharcyde‘s Bizarre Ride, DJ Shadow‘s Endtroducing…, Radiohead‘s Kid A, Bone Thugs N Harmony’s E. 1999 Eternal, Bad Brains‘ Bad Brains, New Order‘s Substance, Portishead‘s Dummy, Massive Attack‘s Protection, Beastie Boys‘ Ill Communitication, Lee Perry’s Return of the Super Ape, Ol’ Dirty Bastard‘s Return to the 36 Chambers, and A Tribe Called Quest‘s Midnight Marauders.
There you go, that’s your listening homework for the rest of the week. Get on Diplo’s level. His original Facebook post shares lil’ breakdowns of what made those albums so important to him. Check the full descriptions below.
