Dillon Francis continues to drop delicious bread crumbs leading up to his Latin-inspired Spanish-language album. For “We The Funk,” he teamed with Miami-based singer Fuego, though the two cut the song in Mexico and filmed the accompanying, colorful music video on a rooftop in Francis’ Los Angeles.
“I’ve been really focused on having fun while making music,” Francis is quoted in a press release. “Fuego is a fun dude, so when we cut the song in Mexico, all the pieces fell together pretty quickly from there.”
The clip amplifies the vibe and energy of the down-tempo dance tune. It takes a party atmosphere, puts it against a ’90s-inspired backdrop of bright block colors and patterns, then deconstructs the whole scene to reveal its rooftop set, complete with lavish views of the LA skyline.
“When I first heard ‘We the Funk,’ I immediately envisioned colors, dancing and fun,” director Erik Rojas is quoted. “I’m Colombian, and grew up surrounded by Latin music and culture, so I really wanted to channel that amazing vibrance into this piece. Dillon and Fuego were incredible to work with, and their energy really allowed us to make something super rad.”

“We The Funk,” as well as its predecessor “Ven” featuring Arcángel and Quimico Ultra Mega and the rest of the forthcoming studio album, is a sonic nod to Francis’ roots as a producer who found his voice and fame merging Latin rhythms and electro textures in the moombahton genre. The LP has yet to have an official release date, though Francis has a string of tour dates announced from now through October.
