The details of the first DigiTour live music series — featuring the most popular YouTube celebrities — have been revealed. Sort of…
The tour will begin April 13 in Northern California and continue through Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Charlotte, N.C., Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Boston and others. Exactly where in those cities won’t be known until tickets go on sale at the end of February (no specific date given for that, either) via Ticketmaster.com. And anyone subscribing to the DigiTour website will have access to a presale offer… at some point.
It’s a six-week, 27-city tour. Artists performing include Dave Days, Ricky Ficarelli, Destorm, Mystery Guitar Man, the people behind Auto Tune the News, David Choi, and others they’re still not mentioning. These are the YouTube sensations who managed to rise from obscurity to generate millions of YouTube subscribers on the strength of their viral videos.
Whether they can translate virtual views to real-life attendance remains to be seen. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
Founders Sarah Evershed, Chris Rojas and Meridith Valiando of Digitour Media LLC issued the following statement: “This is going to be a game changer! We believe strongly that bringing artists off the screen and onto the stage is going to change the way the worldviews online talent.”
Well, we’ll see. For more on the history of the DigiTour, check out the original video announcement, or the DigiTour website.
