– Indie label Koch Records is providing its catalog DRM-free to Apple’s iTunes Plus music service. The unprotected, higher-bitrate MP3s join that of EMI Music Group and a handful of other independent labels participating in the program.
– Zedge, a newer user-generated mobile content company, is offering free ringtones and other mobile content from more than 60 participating labels, artists and others. They include B-Real from Cypress Hill, Devo, the Midnight Youth and others. The promotion — called “12 Ringtones of Christmas” — runs through Jan 14.
– Amoeba Records, the record label spinoff of L.A.’s popular Amoeba Music store, will post free downloads of its first album releases on its Web site this week. It will post two songs every two weeks from artists Brandi Shearer and Gram Parsons.
– More downloadable content for “Guitar Hero III” is on the way. Music from Linkin Park, Mastadon and the Used are the featured track downloads this month, which fans can buy and then play as new levels on the popular rhythm music game.
