Music industry veteran Dick Wingate has launched the new artist development label BHi Music Group (BHiMG). The label’s first signings are blues-rock act Jon & the Jones and rock trio AM Aesthetic.
With more than 30 years in the music business, Wingate has served in senior marketing and A&R roles at Columbia, PolyGram, Arista and Epic, working with such artists as Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Aimee Mann and Eddy Grant. He’s also a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS), an advisory board member of Songza and a board member of Big House Publishing, BHiMG’s affiliated music publishing house.
Wingate will continue in his current role as principal of DEV Advisors. BHiMG’s staff also includes co-founders/managing partners Christian Cedras and Krista Retto.
“I am extremely pleased to launch Big House Music with two great New York-area artists and writers Jon & the Jones and AM Aesthetic, as well as two multi-talented entrepreneurs Christian Cedras and Krista Retto,” Wingate said in a statement. “Their musical and business instincts, adherence to value like strategic partnerships, and 24/7 dedication were so compelling that they drew me to venture back into the A&R/label side of the business.”
Wingate continues, “I was highly-impressed by their early development of Jon Moodie (Jon & the Jones) and we worked as a team to build a band around him, and continue to develop them. We also signed and developed AMA over the last few months, and we’re looking quite seriously at two other acts.”
BHiMG’s other team members are Rose Meade Hart (attorney/business development), Xose Mohamdioua (COO), Shane Galvin (A&R), Milagros Acevedo (administration), Ryan Warrender (director of digital marketing) and Daniel Tobiason (consultant/mixing engineer).
