Electronic music and rap music isn’t really all that different, especially when you have the history of hip-hop in your back pocket. The early days of rap music sprung from the loops of old disco records, and legends like Afrika Bambaataa and Egyptian Lover were instrumental to inventing the electro sound. HARD father Gary Richards, aka Destructo, grew up on those records, so when he got in the studio to create his latest EP, Renegade, it made total sense to tap rappers E-40, Pusha T, Ty Dolla $ign, and more.
Renegade has been a long time coming, although fans have heard many f its singles before. It’s been a long tease, and today, it’s finally here. We caught up with Destructo in the Billboard Dance studios to talk about the EP, the 10-year anniversary of HARD Summer, and what it takes to make your dreams come true in this wild scene. Plus, he told a few good stories. Check the interview in full and hear Renegade below.
