Billboard and Digital Media Wire today announced the finalists for the 2nd annual DEMX Awards. Winners will be revealed at an awards gala dinner that will be held on Thursday, December 1 from 7-10 PM at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
The DEMX Awards offer honors in 21 categories in games, music, film, television and video, which honor vision, innovation, entrepreneurship and brand development in digital entertainment.
Companies such as Microsoft, Yahoo!, AOL, Napster and HBO are among the leading finalists for this year’s awards show. AOL received five nominations in four categories, including a nomination for Jon Miller, chairman/CEO of America Online, Inc. as “Visionary of the Year.” Microsoft received five nominations including “Innovator of the Year” and “Game Innovation of the Year,” both for Xbox Live Arcade and “Best Interactive Television Programming” for MSN Music’s Rock Star INXS. Yahoo! received three nominations for “Brand of the Year,” “Best Radio Service” for Yahoo! Music’s LaunchCast Radio Service and “Best Downloadable or Subscription Music Service” for Yahoo! Music Unlimited.
Napster and HBO earned three nominations a piece. Napster is up for “Innovator of the Year,” “Digital Music Innovation of the Year,” and “Best Downloadable or Subscription Music Service” awards, and HBO has one nomination in the “Most Innovative Use of Technology for Advertising” category, and two in the “DVD of the Year” contest.
The DEMX Awards is the grand finale of the two-day Digital Entertainment & Media Expo (DEMXPO), an exposition and conference with over 1500 attendees, developed by Adweek magazines, Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, with research from the Nielsen companies.
