
Demi Lovato is using her celebrity to draw attention to a close, personal cause today (Oct. 6) in Washington, D.C. The “Confident” singer is headed to Capitol Hill to speak to legislators as part of the Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health initiative at the National Council for Behavioral Health’s Hill Day.

Lovato revealed she was bipolar four years ago, and has spoken out to raise awareness of mental health issues — something frequently stigmatized in America — ever since. “I went through several years of pain and suffering, and I want to be able to help people and help try to prevent that suffering from happening,” Lovato told People.
