Out with the old, in with the new –at least, that’s what Deer Tick’s doing with the band’s newest album.
In a video posted today, the Rhode Island five-piece announced “Negativity,” its first release since 2011’s “Divine Providence.”
The minute-long video, which features an upward camera angle, shows the band being fairly destructive, Budweiser bottles strewn about as drums go flying and fireworks crackle overhead. At the video’s beginning, the letters ‘R.I.P.’ flash, perhaps signifying the end of the old Deer Tick before a darker, melancholic sound sets in.
“Negativity” is produced by Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin, who paired with Deer Tick frontman John McCauley in side project Diamond Rugs, and features a duet with Vanessa Carlton. Grupo Fantasmo provides horns on the new album, which does not yet have a release date but is rumored for the summer.
