For the second year in a row, Deer Tick will curate a weekend of intimate afterparties for the Newport Folk Festival.
The three-night charity event will be held at the 300-capacity Newport Blues Cafe, with all proceeds benefiting the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the Newport Festivals Foundation.
Performers will include genre icon and festival headliner Jackson Browne, indie breakthrough Sharon Van Etten and Deer Tick itself, which will close out each night. The final evening will feature a full album performance of the band’s “War Elephant.” ASCAP is sponsoring the parties.
“We had such a great time last year with Dawes, Trampled by Turtles, and all the other great bands that played, we knew we had to do it again and do it bigger,” Deer Tick’s John J. McCauley III told Billboard.com. “It’s awesome that we got so many great artists to come out and play for two good causes this year. It’s gonna be a blast.”
The Newport Folk Festival, set for July 28 and 29, will include the aforementioned acts as well as musicians such as Conor Oberst and My Morning Jacket. Deer Tick’s afterparties will kick off on Friday, July 27, and continue Saturday and Sunday, with tickets priced at $20.
