Dance-punk duo Death From Above 1979 have announced their first full-length studio album in a decade. The Toronto-based band will release “The Physical World” on Sept. 9 via Last Gang Records / Warner Bros. Records — the home of their seminal 2004 debut, “You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine.”
The band — consisting of Sebastien Grainger and Jesse Keeler — broke up in 2006 but reunited in 2011 for a “secret” show at SXSW, which caused an actual riot from fans unable to get into the small venue.

In a chat with NME, the duo said the clamoring from fans for new music compelled them to finally put out a second album.
“No matter what Jesse and I do, on whatever scale of success it’s sat on, there’s always some kind of reference to Death From Above,” Grainger said. “It’s only frustrating because it’s so lazy. So we’re putting out a Death From Above record and if the press is like, ‘It’s not what we expected,’ or however they react to it, it’s like, ‘Well, you’ve been fucking asking for it.'”
The new album was produced by D. Sardy, who has worked with Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers and LCD Soundsystem, among others.
Fans anxious to hear the new music can catch DFA1979 at the Toronto edition of Riot Fest on Sept. 6-7.
