Dear Earth, which will premiere on YouTube this Saturday, aims to inspire viewers from all over the planet to make it a better, healthier and more sustainable home to us all and educate them on how to solve climate problems through keynote addresses, musical performances, special appearances and comedic shorts.
“It is our responsibility to deal with climate change,” Eilish declares in the nearly two-minute trailer, before Rosé of BLACKPINK chimes in to say, “Our generation has to come together. We must work towards saving the Earth” over footage of climate change protests taking place over the world.
YouTube first announced the special as part of its Originals’ October sustainability-centered programming during the 2021 Summer TCA press tour last month. Former President Barack Obama, Pope Francis, Desmond Tutu and Google/Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai are some of the global leaders presenting during the 100-minute celebration of the planet, which will follow a similar format to YouTube Originals’ Dear Class of 2020 all-star commencement special during the pandemic last year.
