deadmau5 is back on the music scene with a new album, W:/2016Album, scheduled for a Dec. 2 release. A new LP means he’s back on a promotional press tour, as well. He recently hopped on the phone with Pete Tong during the latter’s BBC Radio 1 show to confirm the album’s proper pronunciation (“W Drive 2016 Album”) and give a little insight into its sound.
“There’s an ‘80s, sci-fi, fantasy film vibe to some of the melodies,” deadmau5 told Tong, which he then credits to his new Prophet 10, the same instrument that helped create most ‘80s-era sci-fi fantasy film soundtracks.
Tong also premieres W:/2016Album’s first official single, “4ware.” It harkens back to his “Faxing Berlin” era output which should have deadmau5 fans very happy if not give them a bit of déjà vu. Check it out, along with the full Pete Tong chat below.
