David Crosby has quietly become one of the most open chatterboxes on Twitter, replying to fans’ questions, theories and remembrances with honest responses delivered in marathon online sessions.
Prior to Thursday’s (March 5) start of a Crosby, Stills & Nash tour of Asia, Crosby spent two days answering hundreds of tweets with his thoughts on everything from Kanye West to where he draws the line on drug legalization and his musical comrades from the 1960s. He also notes that he has apologized to Neil Young.

A sampling: West, to the 73-year-old folk-rocker, is “an idiot and a poser….has no talent at all” and the Beach Boys‘ Mike Love is “quite possibly” the biggest jerk in rock ‘n’ roll. The last two times Joni Mitchell spoke to him on the phone he hung up on her, he still owns his Mandrake the Magician cape, and he has never read Herman Hesse’s Steppenwolf.
Crosby is approaching 7,000 tweets and 35,000 followers and in his last deluge, he shared a vast number of opinions on artists, food, music and religion. Among the revelations:
Loves: Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, Jimmy Page, Stevie Wonder, the late Michael Hedges, Marcus Eaton’s version of “Bittersweet,” A Hard Day’s Night, David Lindley, Cass Elliot and Neil Young‘s Pono
Likes: Becca Stevens, Joni Mitchell’s “Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire,” Eric Clapton‘s singing voice, Searching for Sugar Man, Steely Dan in concert, Mumford & Sons, the current pope, Celtic music, Fairport Convention, David Gilmour-era Pink Floyd, acoustic guitars made by Martin, McAlister and Olsen, Hunter S. Thompson, mandolinist Chris Thile, the late bassist Jaco Pastorius and Jason Isbell
Dislikes: Punk rock, Phish, Jim Morrison, Yes‘ version of Roger McGuinn and Crosby’s “I See You,” Mike Love, fried eggs on hamburgers, Terry Melcher and questions about “the best” of anything
Undecided: Jack White
Artists he has not heard but is interested: Laura Marling
Artists he has never met: Van Morrison, Cat Stevens
Three words to describe Brian Wilson: Innocent, brilliant, inspiring
