The two-week event will take place at the Southbank Centre from August 17 through August 30.
The line-up, so far, will include an eclectic mix of artists and performers including Sunn O))), Pulitzer prize-winning composer John Luther Adams, singer Anna Calvi, David Longstreth from the Dirty Projectors as well as theater collective Gob Squad. Byrne will also perform, with actor and director Young Jean Lee and with her band in the stage “We’re Gonna Die.”
“Some of my choices come from the European continent – artists I have seen live or have their recordings on constant replay,” Byrne said in a statement. “So in some sense, my suggestions have been a little more Euro-international than some previous Meltdowns. I’m not bragging and please let’s not pull the ‘world music’ tag out – these are great contemporary artists from our neighbors, who, like many local artists, draw from a deep cultural well.”
