The title track off David Bowie’s 2016 album ? (pronounced “Blackstar“) will be released Nov. 20, accompanied by a short film directed by Breaking Bad alum Johan Renck. Today the 30-second trailer for the film went live online. Ahead of Nov. 20, both the single and film will have their premiere at Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema.
The trailer features a bejeweled skull in an astronaut’s helmet, convulsing half-naked men, gyrating scarecrows, a solar eclipse viewed from a barren planet and Bowie himself clutching some kind of Blackstar emblazoned bible. Though the album itself doesn’t drop until Jan. 8 (Bowie’s 69th birthday), it looks the collaboration between the Ziggy Stardust singer and Swedish helmer already promises enough trippy material to ponder between now and then.
