Dave Matthews is an outspoken environmentalist, and his upcoming children’s book, If We Were Giants, brings his nature-loving spirit to inspire the next generation of environmentally conscious individuals.
Disney Publishing Worldwide announced on Thursday (Jan. 30) its aquisition of the novel, which was written by the musician in collaboration with well-known children’s book author, Clete Barrett Smith.
If We Were Giants, for middle grade readers, tells an important fantasy tale about a girl named Kirra who must confront her past mistakes before she can save her peaceful community, the Tree Folk, from a gigantic threat.
“Having spent my childhood exploring the forests of Virginia and time as an adult with the San people of South Africa, I really respect a life balanced with nature,” Matthews said in a press statement. “I’m thrilled to be working with Clete and Disney Publishing to tell a story that focuses on the importance of the environment.”
If We Were Giants hits shelves as a hardcover original on March 3.
