Sometimes the apple falls close to the tree. Or in the case of Anthrax’s Scott Ian and his son, the axe falls near the axe-man.
During the Foo Fighters’ set last Friday night at Bourbon & Beyond Fest in Louisville, Kentucky, Dave Grohl did as he likes to do. As the Foos belted out their Color and the Shape anthem “Everlong,” Grohl grabbed someone in the crowd for their moment in the spotlight. That someone was Revel, the eight-year-old son of Scott Ian, founding member and rhythm guitarist with “Big Four” heavy metal icons Anthrax.
“Because it’s a special occasion, I’m going to bring out someone who’s going to play guitar with us,” Grohl told the audience, as he introduced the youngster as “one of my favorite guitar players of all time.”
At one point, Grohl dropped to his knees dueling with Revel. When it was all done, the denim-clad lad placed his instrument against the foldback wedge, took his bow with the band, tossed a pick to the moshpit and gave Pat Smear a fist bump, before earning a hug from his old man. “You f—ing rule,” Ian senior blurted out.
It’s hard to tell who enjoyed it more, father or son? Scott Ian posted a clip to Instagram, accompanied with the comment: “Proudest dad moment ever? How about when your son gets to join his favorite band on stage to play ‘Everlong’ in front of 40,000 people and NAILS IT! Thank you Dave, Taylor, Pat, Nate, Chris, Rami, Gus, Kerwin, Sean, Patrick, Simone and everyone else on the Foo crew for being the best!!!”
Earlier this year, Grohl, Scott Ian and others took the stage at the Observatory in Santa Ana, California for a live tribute to the late Pantera and Damageplan guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.
