Over the course of two years, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, the mom of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, set out to answer a series of questions regarding rock stars — most prominently: “How’d they get here?” She figured who better to ask than the ones who raised them: their moms.
The result is the upcoming book From Cradle to Stage: Stories From the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars, which is due April 25, 2017, from Seal Press.
To provide a big-picture overview, Hanlon Grohl interviewed a handful of prominent mothers, including Verna Griffin, Dr. Dre‘s mom; Janis Winehouse, Amy Winehouse‘s mom; Donna Haim, mother to the Haim sisters; Marianne Stipe, mother of R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe; Hester Diamond, mom of Beastie Boys’ Mike D; and Patsy Noah, mom of Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine.
The book will also include a series of exclusive Grohl family photos, as well as a forward written by Dave Grohl himself.
