Darren Criss opened up in a heartfelt post to honor the passing of his father on Monday (April 27).
“Bill Criss has left the building. After many years of coping with a rare heart condition — which, true to his form, very few would have even been aware of — he finally checked out peacefully yesterday morning, surrounded by his loved ones,” the actor shared in a statement on Instagram alongside a slideshow of family photos with his dad, including one snap at Criss’ 2019 wedding to wife Mia Swier.
“Dad lived an extraordinary life. Anyone who ever met Bill Criss adored him instantly. He could talk to anyone about anything. Well-read and well-traveled, he made the world a better place wherever he went,” he continued, describing his late father as “deliriously charming,” “relentlessly selfless” and “a true gentleman through and through.”
“I’ve spent most of my life trying to be like him, wanting to see and do all the incredible things he did — and I’m so grateful he was around to see me actually pull a few off,” the Glee alum concluded. “He was there for the greatest moments of my life, which of course, he always dressed up for…I cherished him every day, and will forever.”
Sadly, Criss’ father passed just days before seeing his son star in his latest project, Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, which rewrites history of the golden age of show business and is set to premiere on Netflix May 1.
