Over the weekend at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival, the Blur frontman refused to leave the stage after a five-hour set with the Africa Express Project. Around 4 a.m., Albarn literally needed to be carried offstage by security while the audience cheered for more. It’s all in the video below:
Albarn wraps a cover of the Clash’s “Should I Stay Or Should I Go,” after which a security guard demands he leaves the stage. After a couple minutes of back and forth, the burly, baldheaded man finally lifts Albarn off the ground and carries him off, amongst a flurry of boos from the crowd.
Africa Express is an organization that facilitates cross-cultural music collaboration; in that spirit, Albarn collaborated with Nick Zinner, Songhoy Blues, Laura Mvula, and many others at Roskilde.
Blur has a handful of worldwide festival spots this month; next up, Albarn and company hit Portugal’s Super Bock Super Rock fest on July 17.
