A documentary that traces the extraordinary rise of Daft Punk — and studies its elusive founders — is to air later this month and will feature guest appearances from the likes of Kanye West and Pharrell Williams.
Daft Punk Unchained is billed as the “first film about the pop culture phenomenon” that is the French electronic duo and its secretive members Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. The hour-long film is produced by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the Corporation, and it’ll air June 24 on Canal+ in the act’s homeland. International release dates should be announced at a later stage.

The film promises to lift the helmets of the robots with a mix of rare archive footage and interviews with electronic pioneer Giorgio Moroder, Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers, iconic director Michel Gondry and others.
Daft Punk’s most recent album, Random Access Memories from 2013, was a commercial and critical giant. The set opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (and on various other national sales charts) and won multiple Grammy Awards in 2014, including two of the biggest trophies: for album of the year and record of the year (“Get Lucky,” featuring Pharrell and Rodgers).
