Saint Laurent’s Hedi Slimane has a love for music that has lead him to collaborate with the likes of Marilyn Manson, Kim Gordon, Ariel Pink and Courtney Love. For his latest venture in his Saint Laurent Music Project series, Slimane recruited and photographed Daft Punk for a series of black-and-white ads and styled their new “Random Access Memories” album artwork.
The French electro duo first collaborated with Slimane back in October 2012, providing a 15-minute soundtrack for his Saint Laurent debut runway show. Now the designer is returning the favor, giving Punk a makeover by tossing their signature threads for Saint Laurent’s iconic sequined-dipped Le Smoking tuxedo suit.
Originally designed as an alternative for an evening dress, the tuxedo jacket is an androgynous fashion item that blurs gender with its sparkle. Designed by Hedi Slimane, the glittering suits are given an added edge paired with the Punk’s trademark shiny robot-style helmets against a graphic white backdrop.
The sparkling fashions can be scene in motion in the ad for their new “Get Lucky” single featuring Pharrell Williams, which debuted on TV during “Saturday Night Live” last Saturday.
