Daddy Yankee was the top winner at the 2005 El Premio de la Gente-Latin Music Fan Awards, which aired nationwide Oct. 29 on the Telemundo network.
The reggaeton star won five awards including album and artist of the year. Pop rocker Juanes had three nods, including composer of the year (for “La Camisa Negra”) and song of the year (for “Nada Valgo Sin Tuamor”). Juan Luis Guerra garnered two awards for tropical and Christian artist of the year.
But aside from Yankee, the feel of this year’s El Premio de la Gente was decidedly urban, with Hector “El Bambino” (now known as “El Father”) and the urban tinged A.B. Quintanilla III & Kumbia Kings also taking home awards.
El Premio de la Gente gives out awards in 15 categories, with winners determined by fan votes on the El Premio Web site, fan Web sites and selected stores nationwide. Nominations are determined by SoundScan sales and radio station reports.
