On April 10, the movie The Sisterhood of Night will hit theaters, featuring their original score in collaboration with Tobias Enhus. The Las Vegas duo have previously contributed scores to such films as Real Steel and London.
Wes Smith & the Juice Squad’s reinterpretation of “Difference” trades the original’s churning video-game synths and tense percussion for a throwback broken-beat, squealing guitars and warbling electro house progressions. Listen to its full premiere exclusively on Billboard:
Billboard caught up with the duo to discuss their forthcoming remix album and recent silver-screen scoring for Sisterhood of the Night.
How did you select artists for the remix album?
On most of the remixes we wanted fresh new artists that would have completely different interpretations of our music, and they all delivered! On a couple we knew the artist well and always wanted a remix from them, like Darth & Vader.
What’s the story on the Wes Smith & the Juice Squad remix?
We had been spinning a lot of Wes Smith at gigs and on our radio show so when it came time for remixes he was one of our first calls. He’s got a brand new album just out that’s killing it too!
Talk about the Sisterhood of the Night score. How’d that come together?
It’s an amazing first film from Caryn Waechter! She personally came to Crystalwerks (our studio) to play us an early cut of the first reel and we were hooked! We worked with our scoring partner Tobias Enhus on this film and are so excited about it finally coming out! We also worked with Tobias on the Almost Human score for Bad Robot / Fox last season.
What else can we expect from you this year?
We’re working on a top secret project right now that just might change everyone’s perception of virtual reality, that will be out this year. Also working on a cool remix of a new track by Shepard Fairey. Concentrating on score work this year but, as always, working on the next TCM LP. We’re on the SiriusXM every Monday and Wednesday night and hopefully in your town sometime this year.
The Crystal Method Remixed will be available on March 17 through TINY e Records.
