Musical theater is the place to be these days for rock royalty: Bono and the Edge were involved in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, and Sting wrote — and recently took the stage in — the Broadway musical The Last Ship.
Courtney Love is joining the fun as the lead in Kansas City Choir Boy, which will run in New York City from Jan. 8-17. Watch her sing one of the show’s tunes, “All I Ever Wanted,” below.
Kansas City Choir Boy is a “theatricalized concept album” written by Todd Almond, who supports Love on piano in the video. The production is a part of the Prototype festival, which bills itself as “the premier festival of opera-theatre and music-theatre.” Kevin Newbury, who runs Prototype, told The New York Times that the music for Kansas City Choir Boy sounds like “Disco meets Vivaldi.”

This marks Love’s first foray into musical theater after a long history with screen acting. “I really wanted to do theater,” she said, “But probably I’m not ready to do a play quite yet.”
