Last week we reported that Laurent’s creative director Hedi Slimane made Marilyn Manson the face of the brand, making it cool for boys everywhere to rock thick eyeliner and dark lipstick. Slimane continues his new “Music Project” for the brand, selecting yet another ‘90s star in his campaign. This time around it’s all about tight leather bra tops and hot mini skirts for ladies.
Courtney Love’s chaotic look is a seamless addition to the dark and moody style of the brand — especially after Slimane created an entire “California Grunge” fall collection inspired by her signature untidy look. After the fall show Love even took to Twitter to express her love for the line, saying “having ‘gasms at the idea of rich ladies buying what we used to wear, finally someone got the actual look exact, no beanies.”
Leather bras and Love aside, Saint Laurent’s “Music Project” is part of a larger portrait series that draws “on the relationship between rock icons and the house since its earliest days,” as stated in the press release. The campaign reveals Slimane’s obsession with rock stars – previously styling David Bowie, Mick Jagger, The Libertines and The Kills.
Slimane’s love for Rock has led him to commission soundtracks by Daft Punk and Ty Sega for the French fashion brand and have musicians like Ariel Pink, Beck and Sky Ferreira model for the line.
