Infinity Broadcasting’s WQYK-FM Tampa, Fla., is set to become the first country station in the U.S. with a morning show made up of two recording artists. Comedian Cledus T. Judd and singer Chad Brock have been tapped as the station’s new morning team and will start on the air Friday (Aug. 19).
Judd records for Koch Records and previously had a deal with Sony Music Nashville. His albums have sold 1.8 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. His next release, “Cledus T. Judd Presents: Boogity, Boogity — A Tribute To The Comic Genius of Ray Stevens,” is due Oct. 4.
Judd’s previous radio experience includes a lengthy stint as a fill-in host for country WSM-FM Nashville. He has also done on-camera work for CMT and the USA Networks series “Nashville Star.”
Brock most recently recorded for Broken Bow Records and previously made music for Warner Bros., where he scored the hits “Ordinary Life” and “Yes!” The latter spent three weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart in 2000.
Best know for his parody songs, Judd previously parodied Brock’s two biggest hits. “Ordinary Life” became “Coronary Life” and “Yes!” became “Half,” a twist on divorce. Brock appeared in the “Coronary Life” video.
Until being hired at WQYK, Brock was half of the morning show at Asterisk Communications’ WTRS Ocala, Fla., where he had worked since March.
Both artists plan to continue their recording careers.
