For Constance Wu, her love of Jennifer Lopez preceded their new movie Hustlers. Wu, alongside Neil Patrick Harris, visited The Late Late Show With James Corden on Monday night to discuss their old theater days, and Wu recalled a different recurring performance of hers: impersonating J.Lo.
As a 16-year-old, Wu worked at a theme park called Paramount’s Kings Dominion in Doswell, Va., during the summers. The stage show she performed on was titled “Pop 40” because it was dedicated to singing the hits. When Lopez released “Waiting for Tonight” in 1999, the song peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 — qualifying for the theme park’s show.
The Hustlers actress remembered the choreography for her rendition of the J.Lo classic because “the dances were modified for somebody who doesn’t dance,” she noted. Taking center stage of the late night show with a mic, the Crazy Rich Asians star belted “Waiting for Tonight” to the rhythm of the audience’s applause.
