Longtime AOL executive Kevin Conroy will exit the Time Warner-owned Web portal to lead Univision’s varied digital operations, which the Spanish-language media giant is rebranding as Univision Interactive Media.
As of Jan. 12 Conroy, who was most recently AOL’s executive VP of global products and marketing, will take on the role of president of Univision Interactive Media, a division previously known as Univision Online. He’ll report directly to Univision CEO Joe Uva. Conroy replaces former Univision Online president Javier Saralegui, who exited his post last April.
The eight-year AOL veteran held multiple positions at the Internet pioneer, touching everything from marketing strategy to AOL’s mobile and IPTV products. At one point during his tenure Conroy served as senior VP and GM of AOL Entertainment, where he was instrumental in launching the groundbreaking for its time In2TV platform, which allowed users to stream full length episodes of old TV shows well before the arrival of sites like YouTube and Hulu.
At Univision, Conroy will oversee Univision.com as well as Univision Móvil-the company mobile products/content division. Conroy’s arrival, and the digital group’s rebranding efforts come at a time of increased competition in the Spanish language Web category. Just a few months ago, Yahoo and Telemundo announced they were dissolving their joint Web partnership to focus on each cultivating their own stand alone Web sites.
