Independent record executives on Wednesday (Nov. 30) will gather with representatives from leading telecoms firms such as Orange and Nokia in London for MuLiMob, an event aimed at promoting mobile music.
The conference, supported by the European Commission and trade body the Assn. of Independent Music, aims to inject more diversity into the fast emerging mobile music sector. Organizers point out that the majors music companies have vast resources to deploy and capitalize in this area.
Independent labels say this ignores independent artists and, as a result, consumer offerings are now biased towards Top 50 commercial hits. MuLiMob intends “to support the music and artists you cannot find on commercial radio stations, thereby enhancing multilingual and multicultural diversity.”
The conference will gather Impala president/co-Chairman of Play it Again Sam Michel Lambot, Orange Music product manager Brian Pemberton, Beggars Group head of new media Simon Wheeler, among others.
