Rapper Common has solidified the tracklist for his fifth album, “Electric Circus, which, as previously reported, is due Dec. 10 via MCA. First single “Come Close to Me” featuring Mary J. Blige debuted last week at No. 86 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.
In addition to previously announced guests Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, the Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams, Bilal, and Cee-Lo, “Electric Circus” features P.O.D. frontman Sonny on “Electric, Wire, Hustle, Flower,” Stereolab vocalist Laetitia Sadier on “New Wave,” and the guitar work of Prince on “Star *69 (PS With Love).”
Common’s duet with Badu, “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip Hop),” is at No. 3 this week on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hip Singles & Tracks chart and No. 16 on the Hot 100. The cut is featured on the “Brown Sugar” soundtrack, released Sept. 24 via MCA.
“Electric Circus” is Common’s first album since 2000’s “Like Water for Chocolate,” which debuted at No. 16 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 713,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
