K-pop girl group AOA made their return this week with their New Moon EP, and, as its title suggests, it represents a new stage in the act’s career.
Now a five-member team, AOA urged listeners to “Come See Me” on their new single and take another look at them through it’s addicting electro-pop melody. In its music video, the members transform into western-inspired femme fatales who exude both charisma and danger as they perform the song and it’s captivating choreography.
The release of New Moon on Nov. 26, followed the act’s surge in prominence in South Korea after appearing on the television show Queendom, which featured multiple female K-pop acts facing off against one another through performances of their own songs, covers of others, and culminated in original new music from the competitors. During it, AOA, which got its start in 2012, saw a renaissance in popularity as they showed new sides to themselves to the public, with their impactful performance of Mamamoo’s “Egotistic” going viral in October.
AOA debuted in 2012 as an eight-member band-oriented team, and transitioned into a dance-focused act early on in their career, after which they grew popular for earworm hits like 2014’s “Like A Cat” and 2015’s “Heart Attack.” New Moon is their first EP since last yera’s Bingle Bangle, which dropped in May and peaked at No. 10 on the World Albums chart dated June 9, 2018.
