“Viva” falls 1-2 in Germany, Switzerland and Finland and 1-4 in Greece, but is still No. 1 in Holland and Ireland. It’s not the U.K.’s bestselling album of the week, which appears instead on the separate compilations chart. “Now That’s What I Call Music! 70” (EMI/Virgin/UMTV) sells 383,000 in its first week, 243 units ahead of “Now 69” in March. Amy Winehouse moves back 5-3 overall with “Back To Black” (Universal Island), now in its 85th week on the pan-Eurochart chart. Its best move is a 16-10 jump in Greece. Madonna is at No. 4 on Top 100 Albums for a sixth week running with “Hard Candy” (Warner Bros.). She too has a good week in Greece, climbing 4-2.
The Polydor/Universal soundtrack to “Mamma Mia” is one of two Abba-related titles in the Europe-wide top ten, climbing 22-5. It falls 1-2 on the U.K. compilation chart but climbs 4-1 in Finland, 2-1 in Denmark and Greece, races 31-1 in Hungary, 27-3 in Switzerland and 35-5 in Germany, holds at No.1 in Norway and debuts at No.1 in Austria. Meanwhile Abba’s 16-year-old “Gold – Greatest Hits,” also on Polydor, is up 17-7 on Top 100 Albums after moving 5-2 in the United Kingdom.
In between them on the aggregate chart, Amy Macdonald is back up 7-6 with “This Is The Life” (Mercury/Universal). It’s up 2-1 in Switzerland and at No. 2 in Holland (as is the title track single) and Flanders. Carla Bruni’s “Comme Si De Rien N’Etait” (Teorema/Naive) falls from its No. 3 entry position on Top 100 Albums to No. 8. It’s down 1-2 in France but rests at No. 3 in Wallony.
Classical crossover vocalist Paul Potts is back up 13-9 overall with “One Chance” (Syco Music/Sony BMG). The debut set topped the U.K. chart last August, but is now up 3-1 in Germany as a single version of “Nessun Dorma” climbs 4-3 there. Basshunter’s “Now You’re Gone – The Album” (Hard2Beat) falls 6-10 in its second week on the pan-European chart, dropping 1-3 in the United Kingdom but holding at No. 2 in Ireland.
The Kid Rock single is No. 1 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Ireland, and rises 3-2 on the U.K. chart, on which “Dance Wiv Me” (Dirtee Stank) by rapper Dizzee Rascal featuring Calvin Harris and Chrome, leads the way for a fourth week.
