Coldplay has returned from their post-“Mylo Xyloto” respite with “Atlas,” the first single from the soundtrack to “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” The song’s lyric video launched online on Friday (Sept. 6) and captures the sweeping grandeur of the piano-driven track.
Chris Martin and co. wrote “Atlas” specifically for “Catching Fire,” and the lyrics abstractly touch upon main characters Katniss and Peeta’s mutual reliance. “Carry your world/I’ll carry your world,” Martin croons as the piano and guitars congeal for a weighty conclusion.
“Atlas,” which was recorded in London produced by Coldplay with Daniel Green and Rik Simpson, is currently available on iTunes, and will be featured in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” film when it hits theaters on Nov. 22. The song is Coldplay’s first new track in almost two years, as their previous full-length, “Mylo Xyloto,” was released in October 2011.
The first “Hunger Games” soundtrack, which was released in March 2012, was led by Taylor Swift’s single “Safe & Sound,” which featured the Civil Wars. The single has sold 1.6 million downloads to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
