
Chris Martin has shared this David Bowie story before, but in the wake of the singer’s death, it’s too good not to hear again.
In a recent interview with NME, Coldplay‘s Will Champion recalled the time that the band had asked Bowie to collaborate with them, explaining that Martin had sent Bowie a letter asking if he would consider working on a tune that had a “David Bowie-type character” in it.

He declined. According to a grinning Champion, Bowie replied, “It’s not a very good song, is it?” Champion didn’t mind too much: “He was very discerning — he wouldn’t just put his name to anything. I’ll give him credit for that!”
