So what was happening on the Real-Time Charts this week?
In November, Cody Simpson and Justin Bieber topped the Trending 140 with “Home To Mama.” This week, Cody Simpson does it again after releasing a sample of a new track called “Flower.” To get the social bump necessary to top the chart, Simpson went right to the source: Twitter. Simpson is the first artist to release a new song with Twitter’s new video player, which was part of a product update the platform rolled out on Tuesday.
Fifth Harmony jumps into the top 10 of the chart with “Like Mariah” featuring Tyga, a song which samples Mariah Carey’s single “Always Be My Baby.” “Always Be My Baby” was released in 1996, when the group members were between 0 and 3-years old.
Jack and Jack pay homage to The Beatles‘ iconic Abbey Road in the new single for “Like That,” which topped the chart on Jan. 19. And last, Rihanna, Kanye West and Beatle’s Paul McCartney “FourFiveSeconds” topped the Trending 140 just after it was released on Saturday, Jan. 24.
The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
