Last week, Cody Simpson scored his best sales week to date when his sophomore album “Surfers Paradise” debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart with more than 24,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The 16-year-old Australian pop prodigy has tirelessly promoted the follow-up to 2012’s “Paradise” through live shows, media visits and fan meet-and-greets — and on July 18, two days after the release of “Surfers Paradise,” Simpson invited Billboard to tag along and watch a day’s worth of action unfold.
We traveled with the singer all across the city to watch him speak to outlets like MTV and Fuse; hug and pose for pictures with dozens of fans; deliver a special acoustic performance at the Billboard studios; and, finally, end the day with a packed performance at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square. Simpson even shared a special story that involved Justin Bieber’s birthday party and Mike Tyson.
