Electronic music’s growing footprint in the Pacific Northwest owes quite a bit to Decibel Festival. Since 2003, the Seattle event has consistently showcased an eclectic blend of cutting edge talent ranging from deadmau5 and Amon Tobin to Lorde and Nicolas Jaar.
With a diverse lineup boasting the likes of Richie Hawtin, Simian Mobile Disco, Pete Tong and Soul Clap, this year’s edition promises to continue that proud tradition. In advance of the four-day festival’s kick-off on Sept. 24, Billboard caught up with ts organizers to showcase some of this year’s most intriguing artists.
Tokimonsta, “Steal My Attention”
“Jennifer Lee’s alias TOKiMONSTA released her latest project Desiderium today on her independent label Young Art. The addicting appeal of the title track, “Steal My Attention,” stems from Lee’s incandescent vocals and the pop-laced synth basslines. Don’t sleep on TOKiMONSTA as she headlines the Rhythm & Bass showcase alongside Baths and The Flavr Blue!”
Simian Mobile Disco, “Tangents”
“Anticipation is building for Simian Mobile Disco’s live audio visual production of their 2014 album Whorl. Their first official single, “Tangents” gives a taste of the energetic and mesmerizing synth that SMD cultivates continuously. Don’t miss these legends at the Hardware showcase featuring Robert Babicz and Luke Mandala!”
Kaytranada, “Leave Me Alone (ft. Shay Lia)”
“Kaytranada has been making waves with his infectious genre-weaving tunes. With its ethereal sound, “Leave Me Alone,” off his upcoming EP So Bad, has been on heavy rotation at Decibel workstations and kept us floating through the month of September. Check him out at our partner Resident Advisor’s showcase with Lunice, DJAO, and JusMoni!”
Natasha Kmeto, “Inevitable”
“Natasha is a Decibel alum and one of our favorite artists to emerge from the Pacific Northwest. “Inevitable,” off her new LP due early 2015 on Federal Prism, caught us with her hypnotizing vocals and bass lines. Catch Natasha Kmeto perform with visual artist Effixx at our Opening Gala along with Lusine and Sabota!”
Com Truise, “ Declination”
“Hailing from our partner Ghostly International, Com Truise, headlines Decibel this year bringing his coveted signature synth sound. Heavily inspired by new wave, funk, and science fiction, he catapults us to a post-apocalyptic dance party. Witness the magic with Lindstrom, Midnight Magic, and Avalon Emerson at our Dance Nostalgic showcase!”
