Summer is nearly over, but don’t tell the Dirtybird crew. Originally formed around a grill in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, Claude VonStroke’s merry band of misfits have taken their BBQ concept on the road. Between now and November, the forward-thinking dance label will bring their signature brand of booty-shaking house to five cities, including Detroit, Toronto, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
In honor of the events, Billboard turned over the Guest Playlist reins to Dirtybird captain Claude VonStroke to showcase his favorite grill-ready soundtrack.
Snoop Dogg ft Pharrell Williams “Beautiful”, (Justin Martin bootleg): Some of Justin Martin’s finest bootlegs are his bootlegs of “Change Clothes” and “Beautiful.” it just reminds me of our BBQ party and the exciting times when we were doing bootlegs on vinyl and just going for it back in the day.
Sublime, “Summertime (Doin Time)”: I always think about this group when i think about southern California when i was young and stupid. Its so chill, but it still has all the Long Beach undertones that some mayhem will ensue at some point.
Isolee, “Beau Mot Plage”: Classic just a gorgeous house classic track that sounds like summer. Probably one of my biggest influences on trying to add synths to a track without having them sound forced.
Chaka Demus & Pliers, “Murder She Wrote” I know this one is ridiculous, but this is the kind of thing that gets everyone’s ass moving if you drop it at the right time while the meats are grilling and the beer is flowing. Plus this is probably the best lyric ever taken from a TV show title. I know you are already singing it in your head if you are reading this.
Luniz, “I Got Five on It”: Perhaps overplayed, it still makes everyone go into summertime BBQ mode and want to fire one up.
