The CMT Awards has its own win to celebrate. Roughly 2.7 million people tuned in to the fan-voted honor on Wednesday (June 5), a 29 percent increase from last year’s event.
Driven by young adults and the addition of MTV’s brand suite, overall ratings for the show — which was simulcast on MTV and CMT — increased by 49 percent. Among persons aged 18 to 34, ratings were up 60 percent.
Notably, the show’s social numbers grew by more than 150 percent, making the CMTs the most social primetime program across broadcast and cable for the night.
The fan-voted awards show, which is essentially a country edit of the MTV VMAs, were hosted by Little Big Town in Nashville. Carrie Underwood took home the most honors, including for video of the year, also joining a star-studded list of performers that included Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini and Keith Urban.
