Gearing up for his pre-Grammy gala, taking place Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Clive Davis spoke to select reporters about what to expect at the A-list soiree, as he does every year, but the topic foremost on people’s minds had little to do with songs or hits. Rather, it was concern for Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of the late Whitney Houston, who is fighting for her life at an Atlanta hospital after being found unconscious at her home.
“It’s been heartbreaking to see the Houston family in such pain again,” Davis told Billboard. “I certainly offer my continued support.”
Sadly, this is familiar territory for Davis, who weathered the death of Houston in 2012 just hours before his annual fete. In an eerie twist of fate, Brown, like her mother, also lost consciousness while in a bathtub. Details about her condition have been scant and often conflicting, with some outlets reporting that she had been taken off life support.
Davis offered no additional details regarding her condition, adding that he is in touch with Pat Houston, Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law, who heads the estate, and asking to respect the family’s privacy.
