Country icon Clint Black’s new musical, Looking for Christmas, is looking for new venues for a holiday tour in the 2019 season.
The play makes its world premiere Nov. 20, 2018 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, after beginning previews Nov. 11. The show’s run has already been extended by popular demand through Dec. 31 at the Old Globe.
The musical takes its name from Black’s 1995 holiday album, Looking for Christmas, which featured 10 originals written or co-written by Black. James D. Sasser wrote the show’s book, Mat Hinkley handled music supervision and music direction, while Kent Nicholson directed.
The musical deals with Staff Sergeant Mike Randolf, who returns from Afghanistan to his family. But before he can enjoy the spirit of the season, he must make peace with the past and let go of the ghosts of the battlefield. His daughter leads him to the true meaning of Christmas and to healing.
“I am thrilled to be able to take this musical on the road,” said Black in a statement. “The message, which was inspired by the sacrifices our servicemen and women and their families make, especially over the holidays, is something that we must always remember.”
The tour, booked by Stephen Lindsay and Magaly Barone, is produced by The 959 Group (Kent Nicholson, James Sasser, Charles Vincent Burwell, Henry Ivey, and Juliet Ivey) and Clint Black with executive producer Greg Schaffert and General Manager Fifth Estate Entertainment (Nathan Gehan).
