Jimmy Page is to receive the living legend accolade at the third annual awards Classic Rock Roll of Honour, to be held at London’s Landmark Hotel on Nov. 5.
Organizers Classic Rock magazine have recognized the artist for his work with Led Zeppelin, his output as a producer and session musician, and his work in the Yardbirds, the band that preceded Zeppelin.
Nominees in the band of the year category include such veterans as Aerosmith and Rush, as well as Muse and the rock super-group Velvet Revolver.
Rush and Velvet Revolver also get nods in the album of the year category, along with the Who and Buckcherry. Rock albums released between Aug. 2006 and Aug. 2007 were eligible.
The Police and Genesis, who both reunited this year, are up for event of the year.
The widely reported story in April about Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards snorting his father’s ashes is also included in the event of the year section. Despite Richards’ revelation in an interview with weekly music newspaper NME, his comments on the incident were swiftly denied in a statement. But this month he was quoted again by NME saying that it did happen, but did not involve cocaine as he had first suggested.
