CL returned to The Late Late Show with James Corden on Wednesday night (Oct. 28) to dish about her long-awaited debut solo album and perform her new single “HWA.”
“I mean, I’ve been a performer for as long as I can remember, but this is my first album,” the former 2NE1 member told host James Corden about her pending LP, Alpha, which is set to be released Nov. 30 via Very Cherry/Kakao M Corp. “So I’m excited about that, that I could be creative and free, and share all my music and performance with my fans — finally!”
CL then launched into the music video-esque performance of her single, which was filmed at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul. Flanked by a bevy of masked back-up dancers, the K-pop idol paid tribute to her Korean culture, delivering the swaggering track’s chorus in a high-fashion iteration of a traditional Korean robe.
“Haters always got something to say/ One, two, three, one, two, three/ So tell me what you want babe/ Repeat after me, say yes/ I’m different and you’re wrong/ Shall we have some fun, say say say/ You got caught today/ The mugunghwa has bloomed,” she rapped on the opening verse while wearing a puffy, multicolored cropped jacket and sequined bodysuit during the verses. Along with “HWA,” the star also released fellow lead single “5-Star” ahead of dropping her long-awaited album, which is set to follow her 2019 solo EP In the Name of Love.
