Citadel Broadcasting has adopted the Promo Only MPE digital music distribution technology for all of its radio stations.
Promo Only MPE digitally delivers new music to radio stations, protecting it from piracy via a sophisticated security system that watermarks tracks for each unique user. Promo Only is headquartered in Orlando, Fla., and has offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London and Calgary, Alberta.
Clear Channel adopted the technology in October, making it available to all of its U.S. stations.
Citadel is the country’s sixth largest broadcaster. It owns 155 FM and 58 AM radio stations in 46 markets.
Promo Only MPE says it has surpassed 1,200 users since its early October launch at the National Assn. of Broadcasters Radio Show (Billboard.biz, Oct. 5). More than 100 tracks from more than 30 labels have been digitally sent to radio in that time. More than 70 of those tracks were from Universal Music Group, the service’s flagship client.
